Beauty and comfort meet access and ease
|
Modern, sleek, but above all, comfortable and accessible. These are just some of the words used to describe the designs of the four winners of the 2008 Livable Communities Award competition, listed here. This is the second year AARP and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) have teamed up to showcase the cutting-edge creations of forward-looking companies that know the value of universal design. Their plans combine accessible aesthetics with ingenious elements that work beautifully for residents of all ages and abilities.
WINNING BUILDER 2,500-or-Less-Square-Foot Home The Freedom Home / Tampa, Florida New Millennial Homes
If you’re looking for a house with interesting surprises, search no further. The builders really show a knack for universal design fundamentals, including a concealed ramp to a large porch, wide doors and hallways, and a no-step shower. These and other details make The Freedom Home true to its name.
